Congrats, you survived your first year at SMA! This page gives you some tips on handling homework and stress management. In addition to new classes, you have your first retreat!

Bonding Time!

The SMA staff and students have set up a retreat just for you! It is only one night and you will miss one day of school. You will first meet up in the commons for the initial introduction and a few bonding games right after school. After that concludes, your class will be off to an activity before you go to the actual camp. At camp, you have a full-packed schedule. Between games, reflection, and A LOT OF FOOD, you will never be bored. This gives you a chance to get to know people in your TA better and also some of your classmates. You DO NOT have to be religious to attend. However, come with an open heart and open mind(:

Transitioning
Throughout your high school years, the transition from freshman to sophomore year is definitely the hardest. All of a sudden, teachers expect a lot more and there is the added stress of starting to think about college. One fantastic resource available to you is the SMA Learning Center (room 204). The LC is staffed by two full-time teachers and exists to help "students improve their study skills and experience academic success. The Center provides academic support through study skills classes, workshops, and individual assistance provided during the school day" (SMA website, Learning Center page). And on top of that, it's right in your hallway this year! It's a great place to go eat lunch if you don't feel like walking all the way up to the commons or cafeteria or if you don't want to go off campus in the rain. There is also usually a National Honors Society tutor in there who can help you with your homework in specific subjects.
