College is a big thing on our minds right now, especially with the November 1st Early Action/Early Decision deadline just around the corner. Here is one more little piece of advice for you to consider along with everything else that people think you need to know right now.
Your college decision is about you. And only you. Of course your college counselor should help you out with admissions aspect and your parents will give you input about finances but they are the only ones who should have a significant amount of impact on your college search and decision. No doubt your parents’ friends and your friends will also have opinions that they think they need to share but just remember that you are the one who has to go to college and you are the one who has to be happy with your choice. There is a lot of pressure, especially at St. Mary’s, to get into and attend a “good” college. But what really makes a school “good”? I urge all of you to look beyond acceptance rates and test scores, past what other people think is best and look deeply into yourself because only you have the answers.
